The evolution

When man first evolved into upright intelligent beings, we discovered fire, heating, cooking, homes and roads and cities - need i go on?

When moving image was discovered, it advanced to VCR videos, and then dvds, HD and not long after Blue-Ray.

Since the Internet has been discovered, it has evolved dramatically, with social networking sites, Youtube, moving to mobile phones, and that is where my next point comes in.

Mobile Internet- a whole new medium.
The internet has been emerging on mobile phones for some time however after the iPhone released in 2007, the prospects suddenly proliferated. Pessimists may argue that despite being convenient for on-the-go travelers, nothing compares to viewing a website on full screen. But, Apple's ingenius thinking hasn't even missed that.

Apple applications is the next target for major media brands. Jodie Ball at WGSN.com said that it is "the next blogging". So if you can come up with a genius idea for an application, copyright it now!

I better get my einstein hat on pronto!

Brand Battles

Last month I found myself in the vibrant city of Barcelona. There I stood with my neck stretched high to absorb the biblical carvings on Guadi's vision Sagrada Familia, to
find on its right a giant pizza shaped like the church.

The billboard read "Some works of art are finished in 15 minutes...Domino's Pizza" taking homour in the fact that more than 100 years later, the Cathedral is still under construction.
The average urbanite is used to adverts fighting for our attention, however recently, it seems brands are embracing competitor advertising with gusto. Does the Dixon advert ring a bell? They implicitly make reference to John Lewis' humble approach to customer service.

Another example, is the BMW and Audi battle on California's billboards, created by Juggernaut Advertising.

Audi: "Your move, BMW"

BMW: "Checkmate"

Their success is debatable, but as for now it sure is great for our amusement.

A Nobel win

Barack Obama is the 97th individual to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples".
In a time where the entire global economy face challenges, it is almost certain that Mr Obama will be a protagonist in the story of our road to recovery. And in less than a year of his presidency he has been awarded.

The Nobel Peace Prize is part of a collection of prizes, funded by the will of Alfred Nobel, whom invented dynamite. Thus since 1901, his great fortune has been pledged to the betterment of humanity, and awarded every year.

Nelson Mandela was awarded the prize in 1993, whilst 39th President Jimmy Carter was awarded in 2002. The other Nobel Prizes are awarded in Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature and Economics.

Here I am...

Charlotte Bronte once wrote "who has words at the right moment?". It should be me is what I'm thinking.
From the moment the internet connected people around the world, bloggers have proliferated through cyberspace. And now, as Brenda Polan said today in her journalism class: Everyone and anyone can post, report and 'opinionate' via blogs.

So this week I've been thinking, where have I been?

Now I sit with a blank page and wonder what I want to blog about. I love fashion, but then I love culture. And by establishing this I love all things in society from politics, history and art. If I sifted through this mass, what would appear in the bowl?

Nothing most probably, because they are all too great to squeeze through a tiny whole.

Thus I will blog about a lot of things, but those things that matter and are interesting and somehow relevant to all. Lets say this: On all things that fall under the Mary-Poppins umbrella of Culture I will be posting on, and thus in some way I will be saying something about who and where we are, at this point in time.
